It has come to that time of the year where we are spending practically our whole paychecks to heat our houses. We bought our house in the warm summer months, and learned the hard way once the weather turned that our crawl space insulation needed replacing. The draft that was coming up from the floor boards was as close to an open window in the dead of winter as it could get. Our thermostat started inching up towards 80 this week as the temperature outside dropped to 10 degrees. There are gaps EVERYwhere in this house so until we can address them all, we are taking some of the tips below to heart. Lowering the temperature on the water heater and reversing the direcction of the ceiling fans are a good place to start!
