In the park across the street from us, I found about 4 different varieties of mushrooms growing in various places. Although none of them looked quite like what I buy in the grocery store, I began to wonder if any of them were edible. I did a little research, and although none of those were probably okay to eat, I know that I can definitely find some that are in our area. One thing to bear in mind is that most edible mushrooms grow on a tree or very close to the trunk. The ones I was finding were growing out of the dirt.
