The importance of sleep and its role in our health has come more into the spotlight in recent years. As the article points out below, lack of sleep in our culture has become sort of a badge of honor, whether it be because your work is so prioritized and professional success is a potential outcome at the expense of health, OR like in my situation, parenthood robs of your sleep you beyond your control. We’ve traditionally looked at sleep as a symptom of depression, but this article suggests it’s the other way around. This makes perfect sense to me, especially taking into account the importance of restorative rest.
