There is nothing in this world that you cannot fix with a little bit of duct tape! Right? Duct tape is the homesteader’s band-aid. Really, it’s a band-aid for anyone who has something that needs fixing. Reading this article was enlightening. More than just repairs can be made, all new purposes have been invented. Make a rope out of duct tape? Insulate your shoes, too?
According to one version, the miracle stuff was created during World War II when the US military needed a flexible, durable, waterproof tape to use making repairs in the field. A strong tape was created by Permacell, a division of Johnson and Johnson for this purpose. As the story goes, the GIs called it “duck tape” because it was waterproof – like a duck’s back.
