Matt almost died after being bitten by a brown recluse spider. He was in combat training, they had them dig ditches in the North Carolina dirt to sleep in. He got in line to march with the others, and after a few miles started to feel woozy. Long story short, he passed out was taken to the military medics and they just thought he had some cellulitis. Not so. The spider bites had become infected with MRSA by that point, and it took another fainting episode for someone to diagnose him properly. They guessed a brown recluse bite, and he spent a week recovering. Needless to say, Matt NOT a fan of spiders. At all. I don’t have much of a problem with them unless they’re ON me. And I have a healthy respect for their role in controlling the insect population. I figure, if they’re in my house, so is their FOOD. So I leave them alone unless I think they’ll come down on me in the shower, or climb into bed. In that case, I just capture and release.
I think spiders are good! Now, if you have too many or you just can’t get over your arachnophobia, well there are ways to deter our 8 legged friends without killing them…but if you must, there are ways to do that too that are nontoxic. Read on from our friends at Common Sense Homesteading:
