I know first hand the challenges of making furniture of one decor and space fit into another. We carried the exact same furniture with us from a mid-century modern raised ranch, 4 bedroom house to a 2 bedroom apartment in Center City Philadelphia converted from a historic French Revival home to apartments in the 70’s, to a 1000 square foot row-home in South Philadelphia, back to another Center City house, with 3 bedrooms and 8 split levels. Some things had to be shed along the way, but we didn’t buy anything new, save for one red desk at the last place. I quite enjoyed the challenge of making these things fit in different spaces and also changing the style from one place to the next.
The photo above and the others included in this Apartment Therapy post are clearly taken of a professional (or perhaps very talented amateur) decorator. But that doesn’t mean we simple folk can’t take a lesson in how to switch it up when our residence relocates. I think the take home message is, make sure your pieces are versatile. You don’t have to use the same piece of furniture in the same exact way in a different space.
