I think it’s quite impossible for any novice gardener to figure out what kind of soil they have based on descriptors alone. “If it is reddish brown and clumpy, it is clay…” Um, okay. Either you need to have the different samples of soil in front of you and feel them with your fingers OR you can conduct the test above. Wish I had known about this test years ago. But now that I am starting fresh with a new property, I’m excited to conduct the experiment. But this is only the first step of the equation. Once you know what kind of soil you have, you have to know what the heck to do with it!
