I planted hydrangeas several years ago in our then-suburban house and was so excited to do so. I had heard, as many of you have, that changing the pH of the soil will change the color of your hydrangeas. Super, how hard could that be? I started dumping coffee grounds into the soil in the base of the plants and within a few weeks I had….dead hydrangeas. I kid you not. Some kid of bizarre fungus grew and killed my lovely plants. I was so disappointed and disheartened. So while the concept of changing the soil to amp up the color of your flowers sounds simple enough, there is technique and finesse involved!
