There seems to be a great deal of controversy around this topic, and I do believe, much of it is driven by the Dairy lobby. I’ve read both arguments on either side, and though I’m not about to give up my cheese, I do think that plant sources win the battle here. The dairy side will try to convince you that it’s easier to get what you need from a glass of milk or cup of yogurt, as opposed to 2 cups of kale, for instance. Veggies like broccoli, kale and even sweet potatoes have high calcium bioavailability, meaning, it will be readily absorbed. So, maybe we should all be making a concerted effort to eat more of those foods, which have tons of other benefits besides good calcium levels.
