I’ve always enjoyed a well-planned April Fool’s prank, and this year was no different. My father-in-law stayed two days to meet his new grandson. After he went to sleep last night, I instructed my husband to move his car down the block. He was still “asleep” in the attic this morning when my husband and I discussed the possibility of dad having gone out early for coffee and must have been the one to leave the front door unlocked.
He emerged a few minutes later and we acted very surprised, “Oh! We thought you were out for coffee or something!” He looked panicked.
“Why? My car’s there, right?”
I responded with well-acted confusion, looking out the window, “No! What the heck?”
That was as far as we got before he let his better senses get a grip. “If you thought of it, trust me—I already thought of it too.”
