I don’t know if you have heard of the Hugelkulture raised beds before but I certainly have not. It seems like these raised beds are very beneficial to your crops. It will not just increase your planting area, but also give a longer season and well-nourished crops. The secret behind that is putting wood inside the mound, the wood gives heat causing your season to last longer and as the wood decays it is providing nutrition to your crops. You can recycle your leaves, branches, grass, paper, and other compost material mixed with manure and you will get a fertile raised bed to plant on.

I’ve got 7 of them. The oldest is 5 years old, a soft maple. It, in particular, has needed very little watering this year and it was nearly draught conditions all summer.
