What Are Second Cousins Vs. Cousins Once Removed

With family reunions likely to happen this time of the year here’s a chart you might be interested in looking at. Interest in our roots comes from the evolutionary shaping forces according to simplemost.com. We care about family members because they share some of our genes. To be honest I don’t know if that applies to me and my cousins (if you are a cousin reading this you are an exception 😉 ).

So, we know that a cousin is a person who shares the same grandparents but not parents. A second cousin shares your great-grandparents but not your parents, 3rd and 4rth and fifth share great-great-grandparents and so on. But what this chart explains is the term “removed” as in once removed, twice removed and so on. Read more about it here . Let us know if this was informative!
