We arrived yesterday in the beautiful Santa Barbara area and summer e are bitten away by the beauty if the mountains and they positive energy of the downtown, we are being bombarded by bugs! Flies and gnats mostly. We’ve been lucky up until now so I figured it’s time to whip up some repellent from my essential oil armory.
Lavender oil, Citronella oil, Eucalyptus oil and Peppermint oil all have properties that repel bugs, lavender oil is more effective on flies while peppermint oil is a good mosquito repellant. You can mix those oils or just use one of them. Mix those essential oils with 2 tbsp vegetable oil and 2tbsp witch hazel (or vodka) to keep the oils from defusing into the air.
To use this repellant put a piece of cloth inside a tin can and pour the mixture inside it. Place the can in the middle of the outdoor sitting area. To preserve for future uses add a 1/2 spoon vodka and close the tin can with a lid.
