Electric Fire Place From an Old Pub Table

Pub table to fireplace

I had a square pub table that didn’t fit in our living area anymore. Christmas was close and my kids have been watching Christmas movies, and wanted the thing all these mivies have in common; a fireplace!

On black Friday I was able to get a good deal on an electric fireplace from Walmart for a little over $30. All I need to do now is get some bricks and I got my self a fireplace!

Then I thought about using a faux stonewall  much easier to handle and cheaper in cost. I bought one board from Home Depot for $32.

Measurements:

The pattern of the stones were unfortunately going horizontally across the width of the board, which gave me a small margin of error, measurements had to exact from the first cut, or else I had to start over. I first marked the mid point of the board.

The table width was 29”, so, on the back of the board, I measured 14.5’ from both side of the mid point and drew two 28’ vertical lines which is the height of the table legs. Then I drew a horizontal line marking where I should cut the upper edge.

Then, to determine the measurements of the fire opening in the mantel, I took the height of the heater from the ground, it’s very important to make the heater coil above the lower edge of the mantel. Otherwise the board might block your heat or even worse; catch fire. The height of the coil was 3’, I drew a horizontal line at 2 6/8 inches and then I made the width of the fire opening in the mantel less than the width of the heater but wider than the door of the heater o cover the side. That also goes for the top edge.

I insisted on using the sides of the same cut to be the sides of the mantel, so that the pattern doesn’t break, this made the sides narow and when pushed against the wall it left a gap since the power outlet was right behind the heater an it is going to plug into that outlet, so I had to replace the outlet with one that is deep. But if you don’t care about the pattern and you need wider sides you can use a different cut from a different side of the wall.

With a circular saw I cut over the lines that I drew. I had one big square piece with a whole for a fireplace and two rectangular pieces for the sides. I then measured the sides and cut my table to the same width.

Then all I had to do is put in 8 nails to hold the boards and fill in the gaps with white silicone. For the frame I used the rest of the board, I only cut a small whole for the power outlet.

Whatever is left of the table you can cut to the size you like and use as an entre table like in the picture below. I bought a pack of 4 corner brackets and screwed the table into the wall. Also, I hung a mirror above it to give it a better look.
