What determines if a crash is survivable?
According to statistics from the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), more than 95% of the plane passengers involved in the crash were spared.
Tom Farrier, the former safety director of the Air Transport Association, explained on the Quora website that three general conditions help determine whether an accident can be survived:
- Whether the force encountered by the crew is within the range of endurance
- Whether the structure surrounding them (ie, the plane) remains basically intact
- Whether the environment after the collision poses a direct threat to the passengers or rescuers
These are five tips that cloud help you surviving a airplane crash :
1.Your fitness level: Overweight or slower-moving passengers obviously could be at a disadvantage during an emergency evacuation.
2.Be aware during takeoffs and landings: Statistics show that most crashes occur in the minutes surrounding takeoffs and landings
3.Listen to the safety talk: I know I know I know, it’s boring. It’s repetitive. But it could save your life!
4.Tighten the seat belt

5.Surviving the Smoke : Count rows
Professor Ed Galea is director of the Fire Safety Said: The reason I count the seat rows from my seating position to the exit is that in the event of smoke or in the event that the emergency lighting fails and it’s very dark, I can – because I know the number of seat rows, I can count from where I am, I can feel my way to an exit. By counting the seat backs I’ll know when I’ve reached the exit row.
