I just learned about mason bees, and you can read more about them here: Mason Bee Super Pollinators. I just wish I had understood more several years ago when I had a vast garden and plenty of carpenter bees, but not really sure if I had any mason bees around. What I DID have, that was given to us as a gift was one of these jobs:
I hung it up near my garden and sure enough, SOME kind of bee set up shop in there! It’s crazy what they do too, the holes eventually get “cemented” shut with mud, each tunnel containing the mother’s egg. When hatched, her little bee baby will be welcomed by a nutritious snack mom has prepared! And the best part is, these bees get along with each other, so each little tunnel could potentially house it’s own expectant mom and bee offspring. And that’s how you attract mason bees and keep them in your garden. Since they are NOT carpenter bees and can’t actually drill holes, they need available tunnels to make their nests.
