The Perfect State To Start a Homestead

thehomesteadingboards.com

After traveling and living on the road for almost 5 months, we’re ready to pick a place to start a homestead. At the beginning of our journey we were positive we wanted to be in Oregon (where I write this now). And now that we’re here, we LOVE it. Eugene is near-perfect. Everything on paper jives with our current wishlist….except being close to anyone we know. We’re about as far away from everyone as we can be in the continental US and feel pulled back towards the East. Just, not where we came from. We want to explore places in the Southeast that might support the lifestyle we’re looking for.

So I did some digging and found this article that systematically narrows down the best places to start a homestead based on 11 factors. Unfortunately for us, none of the places we had our eye on made it to the top of the list. BUT I learned a lot about what to look for, even if our chosen place to settle doesn’t have EVERYthing we wanted. Read the original, very interesting piece at The Homesteading Boards.
