We hope to start homesteading this year in a new home once we find a place to settle. I love hearing from folks who have been successful already. One thing to bear in mind is that there is a range of things one may do on their particular homestead. You might want chickens and never have pigs. You may want to can your crops, yet never make your own bread, etc.
