A Guide For Planting Dwarf Fruit Trees In Containers

gardeningknowhow.com

Dwarf trees are normal trees that reach a height between two to ten feet maximum, this is not because of genetic modification as one might think. Dwarf trees are made this way through grafting, where a fruit tree branch is connected (grafted) onto a rootstock that will not allow it to reach a full height but still produce normal size fruits. Dwarf Fruit Trees – A Planting Guide For Fruit Trees In Containers

Growing dwarf trees have many advantages because of their small size, they are easy to maintain and harvest, you can grow them in containers, they don’t take much space, and they won’t shade on each other. Since the trees are grafted onto a different rootstock make sure you choose a rootstock that is suitable for your area.

For example, some rootstocks can tolerate drought more than others. Although the fruit size is normal, the number of fruits a dwarf tree can bear is less. For example, an apple tree will give you around 60 apples per year.
