If you don’t want to spend a lot of money before you test the reliability of wind-generated electricity in your area this is a great weekend project for you. Turn a car alternator to a wind turbine for cheap!
The components you can get from a junkyard. The major components are:
- vehicle alternator with a built-in voltage regulator.
- General Motors (GM) fan and clutch assembly.
- Tower (or pole) to mount the generator on.
- Metal for the bracket to mount the generator on the tower
- Electrical cables to hook the alternator up to storage batteries
- Batteries with charging regulators if you don’t already have them
