This is extremely interesting research with findings bound to strike a nerve in the medical community. If female doctor’s were in charge of ALL medical care, it may save 32,000 thousand lives a year, such is the disparity of the impact of gender differences in our medical providers. The problem is, they’re not exactly sure what those differences are that create such a giant impact on life or death outcomes.
I will speak for myself and say I always prefer a female doctor if I must see one at all, and when I don’t, I see nurse practitioners or midwives. The male doctors I have seen, by and large, have come across as quite arrogant and dismissive of the things I know about myself or general health information. (I have seen at least one female doctor who did the same thing, btw). The theories so far include more empathy, better communication and more preventative tests ordered than men. What do you think?
