Homemade Nutella

I don’t know if you all heard about the controversy about commercial Nutella containing cancer-causing ingredient; palm oil. I have not read much on the subject because I am not a Nutella fan, but I know that people who are, can’t have enough of it. According to the EFSA, palm oil, when it is processed at high temperatures (approx. 200°C), becomes possibly cancer-causing. Read a more balanced opinion about the subject here.

Anyway, if you would rather wait until they get this figured out, you can prepare your own home-made Nutella, we found this recipe online. Here is one of the comments on the Article:

“This recipe is perfect. The trick is to grind the still warm hazelnuts finely until they form a paste. You cannot do this in a food processor. I use a Vitamixer. Then add oil and vanilla to nut paste and process until completely blended. I use hazelnut oil from the top of a jar of International Harvests Organic Go Hazelnut Butter). Then transfer the oil/ paste to a food processor (easier to continue blending). Add remaining ingredients including still warm melted chocolate. Use course salt (a little extra to get those bursts of salt with the chocolate). Cool completely at room temperature. This has the consistency of Nutella – maybe even more spreadable – and retains this consistency at room temperature. The spread in the photos below has not yet cooled. The gloss is from wet, warm ingredients, not from oil. Photos below are from a double batch. My kids adore this.”
