I feel like such an ass sometimes when I find these articles after an adult lifetime of doing something the wrong way. Why didn’t I look into this sooner? As someone raised in an Italian-American household, basil was as oft-used as salt and pepper. I love having a potted basil plant in my kitchen window. Unfortunately, basil plant after basil plant has bit the dust in my home and now I know why! I’ve been making the same rookie mistake time and again of simply yanking off the big leaves when I want to use them, leaving behind a rather bare yet budding stem.
