We are well aware of the impressive nature of a dog’s sense of smell. We also know, dogs are trained to use this skill to sniff out drugs, bombs, and even diabetes. But even an untrained dog might be able to clue you in on something that it senses on some supernatural-canine level that we don’t understand. I know when I got pregnant, my two dogs became very protective of me, as if they knew I had a bun in the oven they were trying to protect. 1.Earthquakes
Records as far back as ancient Greece tells of dogs fleeing the city of Helice before a tragic earthquake. China also has stories of dogs showing signs of distress before seismic activity. Although dogs are very much aware of their surroundings, some scientists argue that a dog’s hearing is so perceptive, they can hear rocks crumbling under the grounds surface. Some seismologists think that the dogs feel seismic activity through their paws. Either way, if a dog in an earthquake-prone area begins to act odd, the change in behavior shouldn’t be ignored.
2.Labor
Here, there are reports in the literature that dogs predict pregnant women will give birth. Warning signs include that the dog has become a virtual shadow of its pregnant owner the day before or on the day of labor. Guess how these dogs know how to prepare for new joys, starting with the perception of the physical transition of pregnancy or the “scent of hard work” from a woman.
3.Seizures
Some dogs are specially trained to become convulsion police dogs. These dogs are taught to alert their owners in the event of an imminent attack. Sometimes, they even lie on their master during a seizure and call for help when possible. Not all dogs are actually trained to recognize signs of an impending attack. They know instinctively what will happen, but no one knows how the dog feels this.
4.Illness (including cancer)
Humans give off faint odors of illness, such as certain cancers and diabetes. It’s too subtle for another human to detect, but with the dog’s amazing sense of smell, they may sniff out something that may be off. If a dog is sniffing a particular area on the owner’s body obsessively, a trip to the doctor should be in order.
5.Storms
Just like an earthquake, a dog can perceive things on the horizon. A storm produces electromagnetic force, which can be sensed by a dog before the storm comes. Dogs also use their amazing sense of hearing, and can even hear thunder from miles away. Their sense of smell is about 100 times more sensitive than human sense of smell, and they are most likely to smell electric currents in the air.
