I don’t have chickens but I have wondered about this. How do you keep their drinking water from freezing without electricity? There are several tactics, and perhaps using a combination of them is the best approach. Using a large water bin, black, made of rubber or plastic with some ping pong balls floating on top and ducks swimming in it sounds like will cover all your bases!
