Researchers at UK-based Mindlab International were studying the kind of music that induces the greatest state of relaxation. The researchers connected the participants’ heads to sensors and gave them difficult puzzles to try to solve, making them uncomfortable and triggering a certain degree of stress. During which, the participants listened to a range of songs as researchers measured their brain activity, heart rate, blood pressure and rate of breathing.
What the researchers found is that a song called Weightless resulted in a striking 65% reduction in participants’ anxiety, and 35% reduction in their physiological resting rates.
What is amazing is that the song was specifically designed to induce relaxation. Marconi Union, made a team of musicians and sound therapists to create this soothing music, which lowers a listener’s heart rate, blood pressure, and even stress hormones like cortisol. In fact, the music is so effective,
In fact, the music is so effective, IT IS ADVISED NOT TO LISTEN TO IT WHILE DRIVING because some participants experienced drowsiness when listening to it!
