As a former air traffic controller, my husband routinely ignores the directives of flight attendants to “power off your devices”. He insists this fear that your phone will interfere with instrumentation is unfounded, especially since pilots use their cell phones all the time during flights.
Although it’s true that radio signals can cause annoying static, do they really post a safety risk? This article says “no”, but also gives a compelling reason we should all follow this rule. And I happen to agree:
