Well this is one we’ll all have to see to believe. The idea, I suppose, is that scientists are working on blending wooly mammoth DNA with that of an elephant to create some hybrid form of the pre-historic beast. This may also help increase the population of the endangered Asian Elephant. Also, it is believed that hunting and cold temperatures extinguished the woolly mammoth, and thus contributed to the slow onset of climate change. By bringing back this kind roaming herbivore to the tundra, the overabundance of plants contributing to methane production (and hence, warmer temperatures) would be put in check by the grazing mammoths. Really fascinating stuff! It’ll probably be ten years before they create a life, but that’s not very long considering we could have a real-life Jurassic park in our lifetimes:
