With the schools just starting, our kids will start bringing all sorts of colds and sickness home with them. As a matter of fact, we just got our first cold hit this year. Our son started coughing the first day, the second day everybody in the house started coughing.
You all know by now that we don’t like to pop pills as the first line of defense against a cold. Most of the time we use the ginger tea remedy which works every time. This time the cough was getting a bit rough so I looked for something specifically for that. I can’t say how well it works for asthma, bronchitis, or lung diseases, but it sure made our cough better.

Our Grandmothers Know Best – Traditional Remedy for Asthma, Bronchitis, Cough and Lung Diseases
You’ll need:
1.1 lbs of red onions
2 cups of Pure Maple Syrup or 1.1 lbs / ½ kg brown sugar
2 medium-sized lemons
6 cups water
7 tbsp raw honey
Preparation:
Preheat the pure maple syrup on medium heat. Then, add the sliced onions, cook for a few minutes, and add the water.
On medium heat boil the mixture until the water is reduced by more than a third. Let it cool down for a while. In the meantime squeeze the lemons, and keep the juice aside. Add the honey and lemon juice to the mixture, and stir well and let it sit overnight. In the morning squeeze out the liquid and keep it in a glass bottle.
How to consume it: Consume a tablespoon before each meal. You can repeat the treatment until your lungs get better. Children should consume a teaspoon of the remedy before each meal.
