If you read our article on How to Unclog The Black Tank, then you know we’ve already encountered a problem or two in our Travel Trailer as far as the “plumbing” is concerned. The biggest culprit is using the wrong toilet paper. Often when you’re in a pinch on the road, you go to the camp office and buy a package of TP, assuming it is usable in your RV toilet. I once bought a single roll and got it back to the trailer to find it was two ply, and not camper-friendly. We used it as tissue paper. In fact, many folks adhere to a blanket “single-ply” rule, and I thought that made sense.
Then I read a few articles like this one where some smart folks experimented with a few brands to discover they don’t ALL break down like you would think. In fact, as I type this, I have a wad of our current TP, Scott’s One-Ply (NOT the quick dissolving variety, but it IS septic safe) to see what will come of it. And the verdict is…It DID break down slightly, probably not completely like the Scott’s quick dissolving might, but….good enough!
What brand do you use? Have you tested it? Here’s what these nomads came up with.
