Growing in Containers
Banana tree will grow in a container, but a pot of at least 15 gallons is required as the minimum size for optimal growth. When you put it in a container, you can have complete control over the plant’s environment. You should be able to better protect it in cold and bad weather.
These plants are very hungry and thirsty, and you may find it difficult to keep up with the feeding and watering requirements when potting the plants
The container-grown banana plants are stored and divided at least once every three years. Use a high-quality potting mix and make sure to fertilize regularly.
Pruning
Before the banana tree becomes fruitful, trim it so that there is only one main stem. After 6 to 8 months of growth, leave a sucker. This will replace the main stem in the next growing season. After removing the fruit, cut the main stem into 2.5 feet long. Remove the remaining rods after a few weeks, leaving the replacement pumping unit intact.
